April 20, 2021

The Travis County Archeological Society met over Zoom on April 20, 2021 at 7pm. President Nick Morgan welcomed everyone to the meeting.

Secretary Imogene Mitcham read the minutes of the March 16, 2021 meeting. There were no corrections. Nick asked for a motion to approve the minutes. Leslie Bush made the motion, and Elliot Richmond seconded. The minutes were approved as read.

Treasure Caitlin Gulihur was not present, so Nick read the Treasurer’s report. He will send Caitlin the TvCAS post office key so she can check the box directly for membership dues.

Nick mentioned that the budget of $400 for the tires on the trailer was too high. He found some 6-ply tires for $160.85. Discussion from the floor was made about adding some discretionary funds to the budget in the amount of $500. Nick asked for a motion to approve. Richard Denney made the motion. Elliot Richmond seconded. Tires did get put on the trailer, and it was moved to Ken Headrick’s house in Oak Hill. While helping move the trailer, Ken slipped and fell and cracked a rib. He is doing better.

Nick mentioned the Texas Archeological Society (TAS) requested that TvCAS host the Annual Meeting in 2023. And we will do so.  We need people to step up and, get ideas moving. Hotels start to book up a couple of years in advance. Nick is going to look into Hilton at the airport.  He will probably be calling around and getting people to help out. A lot of work is involved. Houston Archeological Society President Liz Nguyen is looking for volunteers to help her out with the upcoming annual meeting in Houston, doing the meeting on Zoom presentations. Nick will help.  They are looking for more colleagues and people with the desire to help out.

With no other announcements, the speaker for the night was Dr. James Karbula. Nick introduced him and read his biography. The program was entitled, “Archeological Testing and Data Recovery at the Toyah Bluff Site (41TV441)”. After the program, Nick thanked Dr. Karbula for an interesting program. With no other business, the meeting adjourned at 8:27pm. Twenty-four people were in attendance.

Respectfully submitted,

Imogene Mitcham
