July 16, 2024

The meeting started at 7:13 PM.

The number of people in attendance was 17.

Heather read the May minutes, which were accepted by all.

Caitlin read the Treasurer's Report. There is $12,306.62 as of May 21. There have been 2 deposits for membership dues for a total $12.349.11 now in the checking account.

The petty cash is $44. Caitlin asked us to bring cash to pass the hat next month to replenish the petty cash fund. There is $5,231.26 in our CD. TAS fees are due and annual dues to Shumla and Texas Beyond History have been sent and will be deducted as of next month. The Treasurer’s report was accepted by all.

There was no meeting last month due to the TAS field school.

Leslie had three announcements. The first was that the Concho Valley Archaeological Society in San Angelo is having their archaeological fair on Sept. 21 and is looking for volunteers to present in a booth. She said TAS can set anyone up with a display if they want to go, such as a display on basketry or animal skills. Tomorrow at noon Carolyn Boyd is giving a lecture on Zoom over the Hearthstone Project. The final announcement is that KLRU is showing the 2022 documentary on the Caddo Grass House Project.

Nick reminded us about the Collins Farmstead excavation in October for Archaeology Awareness Month. It will be in the old kitchen middens and the public will be invited to come out and watch. It was supposed to be a one day event, but Karen Collins has been thinking of opening it up on Friday so schools could come out on a field trip. Ken questioned who was going to be responsible for forms, nails, stakes, strings etc for the trailer. The trailer is now ready for excavation. Ken said he will bring the trailer to the site.

Nick reminded everyone that the annual meeting is the last weekend in October in Victoria.

Tonight's speaker was Wayne Clampitt from the Texas Historical Commission Steward Network . His presentation was entitled, “My First 30 years in Archeology” and was about his background, his first excavation, and other stories that emerged during the course of his career as an archaeologist.

Next month’s speaker is to be determined.

The meeting concluded at 8:06 PM.
