August 10, 2017
The regular meeting of the Travis County Archeological Society was held August,
10, 2017 at the Casa Maria restaurant, Austin TX.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00. Visitors in attendance were recognized by
Doris Hill.
Field work opportunities at the Joyful Horse Site and at excavations being
conducted by the Llano Uplift Society were announced and discussed.
Jonelle Miller-Chapman presented the treasurer’s report. The presentation of the
July minutes was postponed to a later date when the secretary would be in
attendance.
Jonelle suggested that TvCAS needs to disperse some of its funds and suggested
purchasing two parking permits for the Pickle Research Center which could be used
by people volunteering at TARL and for other archeology related visits. A motion
was made by Shawn Worsham and seconded by Leslie Bush to make that purchase.
The motion was approved by acclamation.
Participation in the upcoming archeology fair at TARL was discussed. Based on the
donation made by the society for last year’s fair, the idea of making a similar
donation was discussed. Elliot Richmond moved that TvCAS donate $400 to TARL
for the fair. The motion was seconded by Vicki Worsham and approved by
acclamation.
Elliot noted that the society still has a certain amount of technological equipment
that is not being used and asked for suggestions from the membership of what to
do with it. The suggestion was made to see if TAS would like to have it.
President Nick Morgan made note that a board meeting was long overdue and
would be planned once all board members were in town and available.
The evening’s speaker, Kofi Nutor, delivered a presentation, with PowerPoint slides,
entitled Trajectories in Ghanian Archeology. The presentation was followed with
questions and comments from the membership.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 There were 28 people in attendance.
Respectfully submitted,
Nick Morgan
